Today’s article is the first of a four-part series. It is for the skeptics, the critics, and anyone who does not understand or who misunderstands the true meaning of The Law of Attraction. As always, it is also for those of you who already know, love, and live by these principles.
One of our limitations as humans is that we can only experience the world through our own perspective. Reality is subjective, meaning each individual’s experience is unique, and we all have the potential to experience the same thing in a completely different way.
In my previous posts, I wrote from my unique, subjective perspective. The positivity that oozes from my writing is directly correlated to the life I lead, which is a direct result of the conscious choices I have made.
In this article, however, I have the privilege of bringing in another perspective, which is that of my partner, Brandon.
I am incredibly fortunate to have Brandon in my life, for many reasons.
We share the same vision for our future, and we live by very similar principles. We also happen to be very different in some ways. One of those ways is our world views, and the general planes we like to hang out on. Brandon is very much grounded in the physical world. He describes himself as a realist, and he prefers to see physical evidence of things to believe their existence. I, on the other hand, have always been most comfortable in the astral plane, talking about metaphysics and concepts that up until very recently, could not be proven by science. I am a self-described optimist, and in Brandon’s words, an idealist.
Brandon and I had a very long, very in-depth conversation the other day about everything that I have written in this series. In fact, all of the questions posed came directly from his mouth. I hope that by adding his perspective to the mix I am able to clear up some common myths, misconceptions, and falsehoods about the Law of Attraction and those who teach it.
The conversation started when I could tell that something was off. I had been talking earlier about one of my goals for the future, which was to spend more time helping people use the LOA to better their lives. In B’s words, there was something that just didn’t “sit right” with him when it came to it all. He admitted that he did not understand the basic premise, and had only heard one or two people speak about it before. To him, it appeared like people were selling false hope, and could potentially be taking advantage of those who were mentally vulnerable. He vowed to do some research before he formed an opinion.
The following questions ensued after that research.
B (Brandon): There are so many instances where I can see the LOA not working for people. Take a child in a third-world country, for instance, whose only desire is food and clean water. They say that all you have to do is think about what you want, and it will materialize before your eyes. These children want food and water so bad, yet so many starve and never have access to proper drinking water.
Me: You are right. They do want it so bad. They need it. They lack it. And that example presents two of the biggest misconceptions about the LOA.
The first clarification is that in order for a thought to lead to a physical thing in your reality, you have to 104% BELIEVE that it is possible. For most of the starving children in the world, all they have ever known is hunger, so they do not actually believe that food will come. They hope for it, they pray for it, they think about it, but they, just like the rest of us, call upon their past experiences to form their beliefs. The past has showed them time and time again that food and water are scarce, and so they do not believe that any will come in the future.
In order to manifest anything, you have to believe in it so whole-heartedly, that to you there is no question it will come to be.
It has to be made certain in your mind. That is why one of the best pieces of advice I can offer when starting to use the LOA, is to start small. Pick something you believe is easily attainable, and work your way up from there.
For example, many people wish to have more money. Some might think, “I’ll just manifest a cheque for a million dollars, and then all my problems will be solved.” But how many of us actually believe that somewhere along the way we will receive a cheque for a million dollars? Unless you have received similar amounts before, your mind probably immediately casts this thought off as impossible. That is why the saying goes, “The rich get richer, and the poor get poorer.” Wealthy people are so used to money coming into their reality, that there is no doubt in their minds that more will continue to flow. Poor people have experienced a continuous lack of money, so they expect more lack of it in the future.
If you want to manifest more money into your life, start with a small amount – say five dollars. Nearly all of us can imagine a way that five dollars could make its way into our reality. We could find a bill lying on the ground, or stuffed into a jacket pocket we try on at a thrift store. The point is, when we can think of the circumstances which would allow this to happen, we believe it. When we believe it, without doubt, it will happen.
Merely thinking positive without the matching feeling behind it, is, in my opinion, a form of self-denial.
You cannot hope and wish and pray for something to work out when you do not believe it will happen. To me, that is the same as putting all your faith and trust in an external “God”. The whole purpose of the LOA is to empower people, and to put them back in the driver’s seat, not to strip away that power and subject them to the mercy of “God” or “The Universe.”
When I say things like, “The Universe always has your back”, and “The Universe will take care of it,” by no means am I suggesting you should sit back in blind faith and hope and pray that everything will work out. When I talk about The Universe, I am talking about YOU. You ARE The Universe, because you, in your body in this physical reality, are having a completely unique, subjective experience that only you can decipher and control. The power and energy and inspiration come through you. That means YOU have to have your own back, and YOU have to take care of it. YOU have to do the work!
The second great misconception about the LOA is that if you believe firmly enough in them, your dreams will fulfill themselves immediately before your eyes.
This is not the case at all. Things are highly unlikely to fall into place right away. Why? Because they are not meant to. Just imagine what it would be like if after every time you asked for something, BAM, there it was. I bet many of you are thinking, “That would be amazing!!” And sure, it would be. For the first little while. But the novelty would wear off. There is meant to be time in between you asking for something and receiving it, so that your anticipation can grow. This leads to a greater sense of satisfaction upon the receiving of that thing. The greater your desire, the more time will probably pass between asking and receiving.
It all starts with thought, but the only way to actually change your circumstances is to transform that thought into inspired action.
If you do not act on anything in your life, nothing will ever change. Our thoughts form our beliefs about ourselves and the world, and beliefs are just repeated thoughts sustained over a period of time. If we want to change something in our lives, we have to change our belief around that topic. To change our beliefs, we need to change the thought pattern. But it doesn’t end there.
While thinking a positive thought, you have to be able to summon a positive feeling to go along with it. Once you feel that good feeling once, twice, three times, four, your vibration will start to rise, and your being will eventually receive an inspired call to action.
I am sure you have heard of successful people, whether they are artists or scientists or musicians, who experienced moments of “grand revelation” or “epiphany”. These are examples where people have allowed their vibration to rise to the point where they are in perfect alignment with The Universe. They allowed themselves to be a perfectly clear channel for The Universe to send inspiration through.
Not that everyone is waiting for inspiration to paint a Monet masterpiece. However, whether you want to make amends with an estranged family member or score a goal in your next soccer game, the process is the same. You must believe it will happen, envision it clearly, feel the good feelings, and repeat repeat repeat until you receive a call to action.
This probably won’t appear in the form of angels playing harps, singing the song of your problems disappearing.
It will most likely just be a passing thought when you are relaxed and in the flow. Some people will call this common sense, because the messages that come are usually the most logical next step to fulfill your desire.
If you want to score a goal in your next game, the message you are likely to receive is that you should go practice your kicking skills. If you want to make amends with that family member, your voice will tell you to call them and say how much you have missed them. Logical, right?
Now, whenever there is something being taught, there will be the potential for someone to misinterpret the message. We cannot blame The Law of Attraction for those people who misinterpret. That would be like blaming the car that a drunk person chose to get behind the wheel of. We are ALL responsible for making our own decisions, always. That’s what the LOA teaches. It is no one’s fault but our own if we are unhappy. It is no one’s responsibility but ours to do the work we have come forth to do. It is no one else’s business whether we make our dreams come true or not. It depends solely on us.
That might seem terrifying for those who are so far out of reach with the lives they wish to be leading, and that is why I am here. Even though it is up to you, and no one else will ever do it for you, I am here to help educate, encourage, and hopefully inspire you to start doing the dirty work of satisfying your soul.
Well now, wasn’t that a doozy of an answer to one question! But, like Brandon said in our conversation, there are many instances where people could misinterpret the meaning of The Law of Attraction, which could actually end up causing them more harm than good. That is the last thing I would ever want for anyone, which is why I have created this series.
I want to take this opportunity to thank and express my insane love and appreciation for my partner. B, without you I would always have my head in the clouds. It is a beautiful place to be, but you remind me that there are so many people out there with doubts and questions and real concerns. You bring me back to Earth, and help me deliver my messages with clarity. I thank you so much for always expressing your truth, which allows me to share mine. You are the anchor to my balloon, and this life means infinitely more with you by my side.
Until next time,
All my love,
Always and forever,
If you read this post, I would be so honoured if you could share it and leave a comment. Thank you so much!
Stay tuned for next week’s post, the second of this four-part series, in which I share a myriad of healthy habits you should adopt if you want to raise your vibration and manifest a more positive life experience. Everything from getting adequate rest and drinking clean water, to transforming a scarcity mentality into one of abundance will be discussed.
